Snapshot Saturday is hosted by West Metro Mommy Reads.
I am normally terrible with houseplants. I have a couple of hardy ones that have survived for years but most die of neglect. For Mother's Day this year, my mom gave me this gorgeous pot of orchids. Why give someone with a black thumb such fragile and delicate flowers? She says these are fool-proof! You "water" them by putting 3 ice cubes on the soil once a week. Even I can handle that! So far, so good. They still look beautiful, and I've had them for a month now!

That's a great tip! And good evidence that it works.
ReplyDeleteIt is a good tip - I shall tell my daughter, because her boyfriend has just given her an orchid, and neither of them knos hoqw to look after it. My Snapshot is http://goo.gl/9IGEs
ReplyDeleteWow...I am totally impressed. I had these too and mine died.
ReplyDeleteThey are gorgeous.

I love your orchid, I'm not sure it's so fool proof, what do we do with it when it stops blooming, I know that will be months from now but... (I have one too)
ReplyDeleteI don't know if you can care for EVERY orchid this way - mine just came with a card calling it an Ice Cube Orchid and saying to put 3 ice cubes in the soil once a week.

My mom's has stopped blooming, but a friend said just keep putting the ice in once a week and it will rebloom.

I'm terribly neglectful of my orchids (also a gift) and they've still been doing fine for a couple of years now. Enjoy yours! I'm always amazed by how long the blooms last.
ReplyDeleteI am also hopeless with plants, but I'm happy to hear that this one is foolproof!
ReplyDeleteThanks for sharing...and for visiting my blog.
Beautiful ! I've never tried orchards because they seem like hard work but ice cubes sounds dead easy!
ReplyDeleteI don't have the green thumb for orchids. They don't rebloom for me. Guess I don't have the right kind of light.
