Saturday Snapshot is hosted by Melinda at West Metro Mommy Reads.
After two false starts, my husband and I finally got out of town! Our week-long camping & kayaking trip had turned into a long weekend in a small Airbnb apartment, but it ended up being a wonderful getaway. We stayed on Main Street in Great Barrington, a beautiful town in the Berkshires in western Massachusetts, with lots of great restaurants and TWO bookstores! I'll post separately about the food and bookstores.
The highlight of our weekend was 3 wonderful hikes. The Berkshires are filled with mountains, lakes, ponds, rivers, and waterfalls - there are a LOT of hikes to choose from, through some gorgeous areas. Here are some highlights:
BLUE SKIES!! Hadn't seen those in many weeks! |
Walking along the Housatonic River Walk in Great Barrington, MA |
Perfectly still Benedict Pond in Beartown State Forest, MA |
Benedict Pond Loop Trail |
Spot to rest on Benedict Pond Loop Trail |
Mostly lots of green still, but one lone red tree is ready for fall! |
Ice Glen Trail in Stockbridge, MA - lots of rocky climbing! |
I guess the trail goes through there! |
Having fun on the Ice Glen Trail |
TALL trees - love the Northeast hardwood forests |
Over the Housatonic River at the start (and end) of the Ice Glen Trail |
Amazing views from the Berkshires to the Catskills in the far distance |
Bash Bish Falls - 60' high, straddling the MA/NY border |
Trail to Bash Bish Falls was straight down & then straight back UP! |
Hope you are enjoying your weekend!
Beautiful photos! They look like they could have been taken in East Tennessee, where I'm from.
ReplyDeleteThanks, Bonnie! We love East TN, too - have enjoyed several trips to the Smokies. Thanks for stopping by!
DeletePretty pics Sue. We go to the Berkshires often as its doable as a day trip. I love touring the Rockwell Museum, Edith Wharton grounds and time in Lenox and Stockbridge in general.
ReplyDeleteCheck out Great Barrington next time you are in the area, Diane - so many cool shops and tasty restaurants on Main Street!
DeleteYou're lucky to have the Berkshires so close :)
What a beautiful hike! Those rocks are amazing. The still water makes me think the whole area is peaceful and calm. I feel more calm, in fact, after looking at your photos. Thank you for sharing these.
ReplyDeleteThanks, Deb! I feel the same way about getting out in nature - instant calm and peace. Our weather - extra hot & humid summer, then a month of heavy rain - has prevented me from getting out as much as I like to - last weekend was a much-needed respite!
DeleteLove your photos of the hike. I have never been to the Berkshires, but they look amazing.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful place, Jane! Well worth a visit.
