At Home with Books hosts Saturday Snapshot.
This is a photo from our recent cross-country road trip, of a storm approaching at sunset in Badlands National Park in South Dakota. We were out hiking (it was too hot to hike during the day!) among the amazing rock formations - we love the Badlands! We got back to our pop-up camper just in time for the storm to hit. And what a storm it was - we thought our camper would blow away! In fact, the next morning, we found that the wind had blown our gas grill several feet and had blown the wooden chocks out from under the tires of the camper.
All in all, it was a great trip! Hope you are enjoying your weekend.
I wonder if there are always storms in the Badlands? We camped there once and retreated to the car in the middle of the night because of the ferocious wind and pooling water. Here's Mine
ReplyDeleteYes, Paulita, you are right! They get a lot of storms there - they just roll over the flat prairies. It's happened to us before, too, but this one was the worst. And it is always super windy there!

Wow, just look at the sky! Perhaps the rainy weather here is not so bad after all! My Snapshots are here http://chriscross-thebooktrunk.blogspot.co.uk/2012/07/parisian-pictures-take-two.html
ReplyDeleteWow, that must have been some winds that moved your camper chocks. I love the photo - muted tones and dramatic silhouettes. Just beautiful!
ReplyDeleteThat was some storm! The view is gorgeous though!
ReplyDeleteOh wow, what drama! glad you made it into the camper in time. Beautiful shot.
ReplyDeleteGlad you're ok after the storm. That's a beautiful picture of the Badlands. We in Alberta do have something like the Badlands too. They make really interesting landscape.
ReplyDeleteAlthough I've never been to the badlands, I've seen pictures. We have a similar landformation in Ontario.
ReplyDeleteThanks for sharing your lovely picture.
Oh, that brings back memories! My family had a pop-up camper and we (and my grandparents & two sets of great-aunts and uncles) made a trip out to North & South Dakota about 28 years ago. We had a similar storm in Iowa on our way out there. We (and the great-uncle that also had a pop-up) decided to fold up and sleep with ones who had a truck camper and a mini-home for safety. Glad you all were okay.
ReplyDeleteThe Badlands are very pretty--dry and hot, but gorgeous just the same.
Here's my Snapshot.
What a beautiful shot!
ReplyDeleteGlad I reminded you of some fun times with your family, Bev!
ReplyDeleteWe were camped in Kansas one time when a big storm hit in the middle of the night. My husband stayed up half the night, watching the storm and worrying about the camper. In the morning, we pulled back our curtains and discovered we were the only ones left in the campground! All the tenters in our loop had left during the night!

That is an awesome shot.
