They only emerge from the ground once every 17 years - that's why everyone in the mid-Atlantic US is talking about it and why it's such a big deal. One of the elderly women at my father-in-law's place was saying, "They've been asleep for 17 years and now they want to PARTY!" ha ha cracked me up!
